Thanks to donor support, we are genuinely transforming childhood education.
Orphaned and impoverished children who once had to work at home or in markets now have everything they need to attend public school and benefit from both personalized and group tutoring sessions.
Each month, we offer 300 tutoring sessions.
This summer at Tumaini Tutor has been filled with ongoing learning and fresh ideas. 180 children facing poverty and loss have continued their education through both individual and group sessions.
Established two years ago, the Tumaini Tutor Uniform Lending Library continues to provide essential school uniforms, shoes, supplies, and book bags to ensure students can attend public schools. In June, our healthcare volunteer team delivered a new set of Tumaini Tutor School tees, which the students proudly wear.
"We thank you for the nice clothes and school uniforms. We no longer suffer because of this. We look new and beautiful. Thank you for everything!" Elizabeth M., age 16.
Celebrating Tumaini Tutor Teachers.
We all have memories of educators who made a lasting impact on our lives. For the children attending Tumaini, these talented teachers are "that person." Our teachers adapt daily to changing schedules, group sizes, and subjects. They work together six days a week and guide students toward academic achievement and life success.
Students walk from eight primary and six secondary schools, arriving at various times for tutoring in individual, small, and larger groups. The curriculum covers all public school subjects, with additional opportunities for discussion, debate, and access to the Tumaini library and science labs.
"Tumaini is a great teaching environment. Students are serious about learning, and the teachers work together as a team. Teaching aids—books, lab equipment, and more—make my work easier. I'm happy to see students improving, which is my biggest goal. Thank you!" Mr. Juma, Teacher of secondary science and math.
Students Prepare for National Exams
Looking into Science: Our 2nd—and 4th-year secondary students are preparing for October's multi-day written and practical Tanzanian National Exams. They are making the most of the Tumaini Science Laboratory to prepare for their practical exams.
A new student microscope with battery-powered illumination has been added, allowing learning to continue during frequent power outages. Mr. Methu guides students in identifying cellular structures from diverse specimens using the Tumaini boxed slide kits.
"I love using the microscope. It makes me feel happy and more educated. It’s easy and enjoyable to use. At Tumaini, I can practice and learn as much as I like. Asante Sana". Loveness M., age 16.
"Practicing lab skills together gives me confidence for the practical exams. Tumaini teachers help me tackle questions. I'm ready to do well in all exam subjects, including math. Thank you!" Aisha Y., age 17.
