Education & School Supplies: Transforming Lives in Tanzania
Access to education is a challenge for orphaned and impoverished children in Tanzania. Many struggle with school enrollment due to financial hardships. Providing school supplies and transportation significantly eases these burdens, enabling students to attend school consistently.
· Improved Learning Outcomes – Personalized tutoring boosts confidence and motivation.
· Lower Dropout Rates – Access to scholastic resources keeps students on track academically.
· Educational Equity – Supplies and transportation create a fairer learning environment, particularly for girls.
· Empowered Families & Communities – Reducing financial strain allows more children to pursue education.
These efforts contribute to better career prospects, social development, and long-term poverty reduction, breaking generational cycles of hardship.
School Supplies & Nutrition: Fueling Education and Growth
- 77 primary students received crisp notebooks and essential school supplies!
- Students in grades 2–7 are actively engaged in all academic subjects and have begun an exciting Goal-Setting Program to build their aspirations for the future. Amidst the current food crisis, children in grades 2–4 remain the focus of our nutrition program. Each day, they receive a nourishing variety of eggs, fruit, rice, beans, and millet porridge—sourced directly from women in the Health & Hope Women’s Business Program.
Breaking Barriers: Tumaini 7th Graders Advance to Secondary School
- 100% of Tumaini Tutor students passed their Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) and have successfully transitioned to secondary school!
- The PSLE is a national exam that determines a student’s eligibility to continue public secondary education. The pass rate for both public and private schools is 80.5%.
However, despite this relatively high pass rate, access to secondary education remains a significant challenge in Tanzania. As of 2023, the gross secondary school enrollment rate stood at 28%, highlighting a considerable gap between qualification and actual enrollment.
"Extra learning materials and picture books in our Tumaini library bring joy and make learning easy and engaging."— Madam Oliga, Teacher.
Barriers to secondary education remain substantial:
- Financial constraints prevent many students from continuing their education.
- Limited school capacity makes placement difficult.
- Lack of transportation hinders access, especially for students in rural areas.
