Water may be untreated, indoor plumbing may not exist, and electricity is undependable or simply unavailable.  We provide water testing, solar light, cooking ovens, and water pasteurization products to communities to improve public health.

Clean Water

We test water:  HHF provides EC-Kit (“EC” for E.coli), a simple and reliable field microbiology  test kit, to international groups and communities to test water quality.  Water sources are tested to identify which require treatment, to pinpoint sources of contamination, and to verify that treatment is effective.  On our international trips we teach local leaders to  perform and read microbiology test results and treat water from unsafe sources. We promote solar water pasteurization:  We work with Solar Solutions and Solar Cookers International to distribute Aquapaks and Water Pasteurization Indicator (WAPI) kits for a renewable low cost method to treat contaminated water.

Students in Tanzania use the Aquapaks on a daily basis to create clean, safe drinking water for their own consumption and for sale locally to raise funds for school supplies for the HHF Tumaini Tutor School.

What can you do?   Stop preventable illness and death through waterborne disease by helping HHF provide a water test ($8), an aquapak ($25) or a clay filter for the rainy season ($50). Learn more and donate.

Water Test Kit $200 Test 25 water sources
Aquapak $25 Pasteurize 2.5 gallons/day ….each day

Solar Light

Fact: In areas of Tanzania and the Philippines power is often unreliable, expensive, and at times not accessible.

What does HHF do?

Health & Hope Foundation works with MPOWERD makers of Luci Lanterns to bring affordable, efficient, and clean solar lighting to people living in areas without electrical power.  In 2015 HHF Volunteers delivered duffle bags full of  solar lanterns which changed lives of pastoral Masai living in Nainokanoka Village,  Ngorornogo Area, Tanzania.   In 2014,  HHF distributed 300 Luci to households and in northern Tanzania providing an additional 4 hours of light each day to total 6300 hours of  additional light each week to study, do household chores, and manufacture products for sale in local markets.

The Luci Lantern has changed the lives of the hundreds of orphans and women in our Tanzanian programs.  The Health & Hope Tumaini Tailor School has been able to extend teaching hours, increase the number of students, and increase productivity.  The women of HHF Women’s Business Program shine Luci lanterns on their products at the evening market, which draws attention, and generates increased sales.

What can you do?

Give an additional 4 hours of renewable light each day to students, households, and emerging businesses while you save natural resources, and prevent smoke inhalation.

Solar Lamp $15  4 hours of renewable light

Solar Water Pasteurization

Fact: In developing countries four-fifths of all illnesses are caused by water-borne diseases, with diarrhea being the leading cause of childhood death.

What does HHF do?

We promote solar water pasteurization:  We work with Solar Solutions and Solar Cookers International to distribute Aquapaks and Water Pasteurization Indicator (WAPI) kits for a renewable low cost method to treat contaminated water.

The students  in Tanzania use the Aquapaks on a daily basis to create clean, safe drinking water for their own consumption and for sale locally to fund needed school supplies at HHF Tumaini Tutor School.

Solar Cooking

Fact: Impoverished communities have difficulty obtaining clean fuel for cooking.  Wood gathering has led to significant deforestation.  Wood smoke, kerosene and charcoal fumes from cooking have led to health and breathing issues particularly among women and children.

What does HHF do?

Our solar cooking program to addresses household pollution.  Working with Solar Cookers International and Friends of the Old, a Kenyan organization, HHF distributes and teaches the use of the solar oven, Cook-it.  We work with local leaders to teach communities to build, use, and repair the Cook-it to use in meal preparation and solar water pasteurization.   The use of solar cooking techniques is reducing reliance on fossil fuels and is directly improving and protecting the health of household members.

What can you do?

Provide a family a safe, efficient and free method to cook two 1-pot meals daily and safe water by offering $45 for a solar oven.  Delicious! Learn more and donate.
